Hey, all! My brain is too mushy to write a full post today, so I figured an update was in order.
My original plan was to have my book published back in May, but I figured out fast it wasn’t going to happen. Then I switched the date to July, so I could publish on my bday. I’ve realized that isn’t reasonable either, so now it’s tentatively set for September. This process is taking longer than expected, but I’m trying to be ok with that.
I’ve given my MS to my betas, and they have until the 16th to finish. I’m concerned about several of them finishing at all, and am not sure I gave it to enough people, but that’s part of the process.
The good news is that my professional beta, the amazing Lauren Sapala, finished and I’ve got her wonderful feedback to help me. She had 22 pages of really detailed notes for me, and I am beyond grateful for the kind way she presented it all. She brought me to tears (in a good way) more than once, and although the amount of additions/changes I need to make has me nervous, I feel much more confident going forward. For now, I’m going to work on the smaller things Lauren found, as well as maybe the line-by-line edit for wording. I don’t want to format or change anything drastically until all feedback is in.
A couple days ago, I reached 500 Twitter followers, which was a really cool feeling. I honestly didn’t think I’d ever get that far, so I’m happy. If I can reach 1,000 by the time I publish, and maybe 50-100 of those people actually check out my book, I might just do alright. I don’t like the Facebook interface or the constant friend suggestions, so I haven’t done much with it. I’m going to have to square with it some day, but it’s all I can do right now to keep up with this blog, Twitter, and everything else in my life right now.
Last week, I revealed my book cover, but I still need to figure out the dimensions for submission to Amazon Kindle. It’s ok for eBook, but print needs you to have spine and back. I’m nearly finished with the Acknowledgments, but still need to copyright and whatnot.
Part of me feels like it would be easier if a company with an editor and formatter were able to do some of these things, but the other part really wants to do this all myself. It would be less difficult if I had at least some kind of income to hire the professionals, but oh well. I’ve always been stubborn about doing things by myself, which usually ends up being the hard way, and this is no different. It will be a learning experience. I can do this. I can do this. I can do this…
Anywho, that’s about all I can think of right now. Have a great day, everyone!
